It is like the fruit that Adam and Eve ate in the Garden of Eden. It looks so tempting and beautiful and valuable, but in reality, it is poisonous. The pearl plays a huge role in the cause of Coyotito’s death. The blame for Coyotito’s death primarily falls on the pearl itself, Kino, and the doctor. In the end, it takes Coyotito’s death to make him realize how much he really has been corrupted by this pearl. He loses his sanity, respect of his wife, reputation, integrity, his home, and eventually, his son. The Pearl is a fantastic book written by John Steinbeck about a man that gets corrupted by an evil concealed inside a valuable pearl, and because of it, loses everything.
